The Judging Process
The Decarbonising Transport Awards are judged by an independent panel of respected experts from across the transport, environment, innovation and policy sectors.
We are committed to ensuring a transparent, fair and rigorous judging process that recognises meaningful impact, ambition and replicability.
All entries will be assessed against clear criteria, with a strong emphasis on:
Carbon impact
Measurable or evidenced reduction in carbon emissions.
Innovation
New approaches or technologies driving decarbonisation.
Scalability
Potential for wider adoption across the sector.
Collaboration
Partnerships,
co-creation, or stakeholder engagement.
Leadership
Vision,
advocacy, or action beyond the status quo.
Each submission is reviewed and scored by multiple judges to ensure a balanced and impartial outcome.
The judging panel will be officially announced on 8 September 2025.
We are proud to be bringing together a group of individuals who reflect the breadth and depth of the decarbonising transport efforts.
Shortlisted entries will be announced in January 2026, with winners revealed at the Decarbonising Transport Awards on 27 March 2026.

About the Judging Panel
Our independent panel of expert judges is drawn from across the industry, covering a very diverse cross-section of experience. Each Decarbonising Transport Awards Judge is carefully selected to ensure that the judging panel is as diverse as possible.
Judges include:

Jillian Anable
Professor of Transport and Energy, University of Leeds, Institute for Transport Studies
"The transport sector, with the notable exception of aviation, is expected to reach absolute zero carbon emissions by 2050 (2045 in Scotland). The scale of the challenge means that other sectors can no longer compensate for transport’s failure to contribute to UK-wide carbon reductions so far...if the car-transport sector keeps emitting at the same rate as in recent years, it will have used up its total allocation by 2030"

David Connolly
Director of Low Carbon Mobility, SYSTRA Ltd
“I am excited to hear about Landor’s Decarbonising Transport Awards 2026 and am very keen to support this extremely timely initiative to identify and acknowledge the efforts of those involved in reducing the climate impacts of transport in the UK and Ireland and beyond. I hope that publicising these leading edge/cost-effective/best-practice examples of transport decarbonisation projects, policies and research will encourage those nominated and Landor’s wider audience to build on their good work in this vitally-important area of transport/environmental planning and delivery.”

Brian Deegan
Director of Inspections,
Active Travel England
“I am proud to support these awards and the many practical and positive steps that people are making to decarbonise our truly stubborn sector. We have all the answers we need to reduce emissions in transport, but we still need to do them. The winners of these awards will provide the solutions and evidence we need to get the job done in time.”

Fred Ewing
Head of Transportation and Infrastructure, Meridien Business Support
“It is so pleasing to see these awards being promoted by Landor LINKS. The huge inertia the decarbonisation had pre and post pandemic has been slowing down in certain geographies around the world. Having supported sustainability and decarbonisation teams around the world, especially in the transport space, we should be proud that the UK is the leading light on transport decarbonisation and long may it continue. Climate Change will not just disappear. Fantastic to be involved and excited to see the entries.”

Neil Gibson
Past President ADEPT & Chair of Live Labs 2 Commissioning Board
“The UK’s 7th Carbon Budget reminded us of the challenge to 2050, and the need to further reduce transport and linked infrastructure emissions. Celebrating those showing demonstrable leadership in this space is vital.”

Alistair Kirkbride
Director, Low Carbon Destinations
"The Landor LINKS Decarbonising Transport Awards acknowledge the variety of ways that transport decarbonisation is being tackled across the UK. Many transport decarbonisation initiatives are showcases of better services, places, lifestyles and prosperity, so I am really pleased to be able to be a part of acknowledging the commitment and dedication of those who are making this happen."

Glenn Lyons
President of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) and Mott MacDonald Professor of Future Mobility, University of the West of England
"We need as many Net Zero heroes as possible in our sector in the quest to clean up our act on land, sea and in the air. I'm looking forward to exploring and celebrating success stories!"

Greg Marsden
Professor of Transport Governance, University of Leeds
"Now is the time when the carbon curve needs to bend down at pace. At a time when net zero is under attack from some quarters, it is vital to celebrate the great initiatives under way and what they unlock for decarbonisation and beyond"

Becca
Massey-Chase
Head of Citizen Engagement and Principal Research Fellow, IPPR
“The Decarbonising Transport Awards are a chance to celebrate best practice and recognise the opportunities, as well as challenges, in transport decarbonisation – for health and wellbeing, for social justice, for nature, and for the economy.”

Jessica Matthew
Director, Local and Regional Transport Strategy
Department for Transport
“I am really looking forward to seeing what creative and deliverable ideas come forward”

Nick
Ruxton-Boyle
Technical Director, Citisense
"I am very excited to support and be involved in the inaugural decarbonising transport awards. Transport is still a major contributor to climate change and the pace of decarbonistion is behind that of other sectors.
My career in local transport in both the public and private sector has seen a huge shift in how we decide upon, fund and evaluate transport interventions.
The launch of these stand-alone awards is a great opportunity to showcase best practice across the industry.
I am looking forward to joining the judging panel and reviewing the innovative and scalable projects that are being developed and delivered by passionate colleagues across all modes and regions."

Sameer Savani
Transport Managing Director, Connected Places Catapult
“Transport is something that touches all our lives, every day, and is the lifeblood of our economy. But as one of the largest contributors to UK greenhouse gas emissions, and aging networks and infrastructure, we have an imperative to transform the sector – creating systems that are sustainable, safe, efficient, and accessible to all. I’m proud to be part of these awards, recognising the brilliant minds and celebrating the bold ideas that support our mission to drive us towards a cleaner, more connected future. It’s inspiring to see such passion and creativity being channelled into making transport better for everyone”

Simon Shapcott
Net Zero Director for Transportation, AtkinsRéalis
"Decarbonisation and resilience are two sides of the same coin, and they have mutual solutions, not least those that are nature based. It’s not just about reducing emissions in infrastructure and operations, it’s about redesigning infrastructure to withstand the climate of tomorrow. That means understanding climate risks, smarter planning, adapting design and adopting new materials, while ensuring transport systems remain safe, reliable and can recover quickly when extreme weather events do occur."

Sarah Sharples
Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Manchester and former Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for Transport
"Reducing CO2 and decarbonisation have to be seen as a global goal. There are no individual solutions, both in terms of the individual links in the transport chain - truck transport, cars, ships, aircraft and rail transport - and in terms of the countries of the world"

Anne Snelson
Certified Carbon Literacy Project Trainer, Lead With Sustainability
"I am absolutely delighted that Landor is setting up these awards to encourage greater sustainability across the transport sector. There are so many fantastic initiatives already taking place and these are having a significant impact on cutting emissions.
Transport is the largest emitting sector in the UK, accounting for 30% of domestic emissions and this drastically needs to reduce over the next decade. So sharing best practice and encouraging others to do likewise is a fabulous thing to do."

Catriona Swanson
Strategic Lead - Sustainable Transport and Directorate Equalities Lead, Manchester City Council
"Decarbonising transport is not just a climate imperative - it’s an opportunity to reshape our cities into healthier, fairer and more connected places. I’m excited to help celebrate the bold ideas and collaborative efforts that are driving real change on the ground."
